SCONE SPORTS FACILITY TO GET MAJOR UPGRADE

The Scone Hardcourt Tennis Association has secured funding for a major upgrade to improve facilities and boost participation through the NSW Government’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.

Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said the funding for construction of the Scone Multipurpose Sporting Community Facility is one of 39 projects funded across the state as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to turbocharge the take-up of community sport.

“Scone Hardcourt Tennis Association has been awarded over $1.5 million to replace the existing clubhouse with the multi-purpose community facility with the aim of encouraging participation, reducing barriers for girls and women, and includes disability access,” Mr Layzell said.
“The funding will modernise facilities for local organisations including tennis as well as hockey, futsal and rugby league, enabling more local residents to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.

“Sport is part of the fabric of our communities and our government has a strong track record of investing in grassroots sport to deliver modern, accessible facilities.

“The infrastructure will also be a space for other community groups to deliver courses, meet, conduct assessments and training, entertain and hold events like the Kia Ora Music Camp and Scone Literary Festival.”

The Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund provides grants between $1 million and $5 million for new or upgraded sport facilities.

The fund prioritises projects that provide inclusive and accessible facilities that enable more people to play sport.

Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said the NSW Government has now invested $200 million in new and upgraded community sporting facilities through the first two rounds of the program.

“These projects will not only provide more opportunities for people to play sport, but they will also generate a local sports facility infrastructure boom, creating thousands of jobs and delivering an economic boost for communities across NSW,” Mr Henskens said.

“Regardless of age, ability or the sport you play, this program is delivering game-changing projects that promote participation and secure a brighter future for local communities across NSW.”
