ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR MUSWELLBROOK FAMILIES

New families in the Upper Hunter have received a boost to early parenting support services, with the Tresillian Family Care Centre in Muswellbrook officially opened today.

Funded through the $12.2 million NSW Government commitment to Tresillian, the new service will provide practical advice, education and guidance through healthcare staff, such as settling babies with sleep difficulties, or providing emotional support.

Minister for Mental Health Bronnie Taylor said support services offered through the Tresillian Family Care Centre make a major difference to the wellbeing of new parents and their families.

“We know that welcoming a baby to the family is one the most difficult, yet rewarding experiences for parents,” Mrs Taylor said.

“Adjusting to life with a new baby can be tough and families need all the support they can get, especially those living in regional communities. That’s why Tresillian services like this one at Muswellbrook are so important.”

Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said the extra support will ensure people living in the region have quick and easy access to support when they need it.

“This is fantastic news for local families, who can now access a purpose-designed facility which will ensure that they are practically and expertly supported through the first stages of their parenting journey,” Mr Layzell said.

Tresillian CEO, Rob Mills said since opening in October 2021 the new Tresillian Muswellbrook Centre has provided more than 650 occasions of service.

“Tresillian's services have transformed the lives of thousands of Australian families. By working in partnership with the NSW Government, the Hunter New England Local Health District and Gidget Foundation Australia, we are providing services to give every child the best start in life.” Mr Mills said.

The new Tresillian service is conveniently located at Shop 4B, Marketplace Shopping Centre, 22 Sowersby Street, Muswellbrook and will complement other Tresillian and district child and family health services.

Parents in the Hunter New England region can either self-refer to Tresillian Muswellbrook by completing a short online contact form on the Tresillian website at https://www.tresillian.org.au or by asking their local GP or Child & Family Health Nurse for a referral.

Families seeking parenting support can call Tresillian’s Parent’s Help Line on 1300 272 736 Monday to Friday. For more advice, tips and support visit Tresillian Family Care Centres.
